OMG I need to talk music with you. I have been reading Herc’s K-Tel blogs off and on for years, and I found this blog after searching Radio Daze and seeing his theoretical continuation Volumes 6-15 (?!?!?!) today and seeing your comments on them and reading some of YOUR blog posts. From comments of yours, you were a year behind me in school, and my alternate universe blog would basically be 1975-1984. I bought the first three volumes of Radio Daze back in 1995, and Volumes 4 and 5 a few years later. I have ALWAYS wished that they had continued the series at least through 1983 (the whole soft/lite rock as big hits thing kind of fizzled by 1983/84, though Herc’s lists covering 1983 prove that the series could have gone through that year).
ReplyDeleteSince 1981 I have been keeping a list of old pop songs (starting with the 1977/78 period) that had disappeared from radio, and although by that time I was getting more into rock (by 1982 I was kind of done with current rock), I have always had more of an ear for pop music and the more Billy Joel, Boz Scaggs, Little River Band style of lighter rock. At this point there is VERY little music that made the Top 40 and beyond from 1974-1984/5-ish that I don’t like (and own). I see from some of your comments that there are songs/artists that you don’t care for that I DO love, but that’s cool. Going through your Top 79 of ‘79 and Top 80 of ‘80 lists tells me that we generally have very similar tastes, and could probably geek out for days.
I’m looking forward to digging around here more. Just sorry I wasn’t on here in 2018.
I'm always up to talk music. You can reach me at thecdblog@gmail.com. I'm still posting over on The CD Project blog, markscds.blogspot.com, if you care to check out that space.
