Last week, I presented a bracket of 32 movie soundtracks selected from the years 1976-85. Click here for that post and a printable bracket. What follows are my selections chosen to move on to the final four.
The top seeds in the Siskel bracket have advanced to the semis, but it's an upset special over in the Ebert side of the bracket! I have better memories attached to the music of FM and Xanadu, so those two get the nod in close battles.
FM: "a surprisingly durable and entertaining collection of classic rock that is arguably better than many of the '70s rock compilations available today."
Xanadu: sold more than 2 million copies and launched five hit singles. Plus:

In the Siskel final, it's the #1 seed Saturday Night Fever soundtrack vs. the #4 seed Footloose. In the other match-up, it's #10 Xanadu vs. #11 FM. Bracket busted yet?
In case you haven't already purchased it, Xanadu is now available on Blu-Ray!
What the...?!? That Ebert side is totally off, dude. As much as I love Xanadu (film and soundtrack), Purple Rain is one of Prince's masterpieces. Boooo.
ReplyDeleteWith what is left, I have to put Saturday Night Fever and Xanadu in the finals.
While I completely agree with the SNF / Footloose battle, the other side has to be a Grease /Purple Rain showdown. While I do enjoy some of the songs from both Xanadu and FM, neither compares to Grease and Purple Rain, especially to listen to today. But, in the end Saturday Night Fever will take it all!
ReplyDeleteArt, I am total agreement with you here.
