Radio Daze: Pop Hits Of The '80s, Vol. 15

Last dance, last chance.  The final imagined volume of the Radio Daze series covers the months May - December 1985, a period that included one of my favorite summers of all time.  That summer, I worked with some great people at a plumbing supply warehouse, took some classes at the local junior college, and turned 19, which was the legal drinking age in Texas at the time.  To top it all off, by the time the summer ended, my future wife and I had our first date. I could talk about that summer all day, but we're here to talk soft rock.  Here are the 12 tracks Herc has carefully selected for Volume 15:

The tenth in a series of eleven posts is now available over at Herc's Hideaway.  This latest imagined volume of the Radio Daze series covers the months November 1984 - May 1985, a.k.a. my freshman year at college.  I was an average student at an average state university, but I thought I was the shit [insert eyeroll here].  Even though I was studying "serious" music in college, that didn't keep me from keeping up with my beloved soft rock.  I would have included personal favorite Everything She Wants by Wham (released April 1985, Pop #1, AC #4, R&B #12, Dance #3), but no matter. Radio Daze: Pop Hits Of The '80s, the next volume

The ninth in a series of eleven posts is now available over at Herc's Hideaway.  Herc suffers from triskaidekaphobia and we'll respect his wishes not to mention the number that comes between 12 and 14.  This latest imagined volume of the Radio Daze series covers the months April-October 1984.  During those months, I graduated from high school, met my future wife, moved over 370 miles away from home to attend college, and fell in and out of love an amazingly high number of times for a seven month period.  In my opinion, "soft rock" as I know and love it ended sometime in 1983 (more on that later), so keep that in mind as you look at the 12 tracks Herc has selected for this volume as well as the remaining two volumes yet to come.  I don't hate them, but they're not a really soft rock to this kid.

The fifth in a series of eleven posts is now available over at Herc's Hideaway.  An imagined Volume 9 of the Radio Daze series covers the months July through October 1982, which would have included the beginning of my junior year of high school.  I don't remember much about anything I actually learned during school that year as my teenage angst seemed to waffle on a continuum with unrequited love at one end and true love lost at the other (a.k.a. typical self-imposed teenage drama).   So these are the songs that soundtracked those good times.  Apologies if I got a little melancholy on this one.  Here are the 12 tracks Herc selected for Volume 9:

In 1995, Rhino released 5 volumes in their Radio Daze compilation series, which featured soft rock singles from the years 1979-81.  Inspired by posts about that series over at The CD Project, my buddy Herc put together playlists to make up an additional eleven volumes.  I've agreed to break down those playlists track-by-track in a style similar to the one I followed for Rhino's original 5 volumes.  The third in that series of contributions is now available over at Herc's Hideaway.  Here are the 12 tracks Herc selected for Volume 7, covering the months November 1981 through February 1982, which would have included the winter months of my sophomore year in high school:

I'm a big fan of soft rock and the five volumes of Rhino's 1995 compilation series, Radio Daze, which features soft rock singles from the years 1979-1981.  I've already written about the series over at the sister blog, The CD Project.  Click on the cover below to read those posts.
