McAllister School - May 23, 2011 |
About three weeks ago, I shared a mix disc of songs that reminded me of my days in junior high school.
Click here for that post. Several astute readers correctly pointed out that my playlist's length (17 songs, 68 minutes) was restricted by the playing length of the CD. Looking back, I should have made a 2-disc set. Here's another 17 tracks that would make up the playlist for the hypothetical second disc:
Title | Artist | Year |
Last Dance | Donna Summer | 1978 |
Him | Rupert Holmes | 1980 |
September | Earth, Wind & Fire | 1978 |
The Seduction (Love Theme) | James Last Band | 1980 |
The Breaks | Kurtis Blow | 1980 |
Arrow Through Me | Wings | 1979 |
Rapper's Delight | Sugarhill Gang | 1979 |
Special Lady | Ray, Goodman, & Brown | 1979 |
My Life | Billy Joel | 1978 |
Cruisin' | Smokey Robinson | 1979 |
Do Right | Paul Davis | 1980 |
Heart of Glass | Blondie | 1979 |
Rise | Herb Alpert | 1979 |
Outside My Window | Stevie Wonder | 1980 |
99 | Toto | 1980 |
Funkytown | Lipps Inc. | 1980 |
I Can't Tell You Why | Eagles | 1980 |
Most of these songs would have been heard on Houston Top 40 radio. My station of choice around that time was AM 610 KILT.
The only song I don't remember from the radio was The Breaks by Kurtis Blow, but a friend had the 12" single and brought it to every party we attended where it got played at least twice per night. What did the Soft Rock Kid look like during those parties? Disco-licious, of course!
