All chart positions are peak positions from Billboard charts. These are my personal top 79 singles of those that peaked on the Billboard charts in 1979. The list is solely my opinion. Using Joel Whitburn's book, Pop Annual 1955-1999, I started with the 475 singles that peaked on Billboard Magazine's Hot 100 chart in 1979. An initial pass through that list narrowed it down to 105 tunes, then listening, ranking, and editing began. The top 79 are presented here, in order.

  1. "I Want Your Love" continues that rare four-chart crossover success established with "I Will Survive" in the first installment of this series and if there are 2 such songs, surely there are more.

And we have a super rare "Children of The Sun" sighting folks - it only got a couple dozen radio station spins in all of 2018, according to Mediabase. That one's gonna get some quality time in my new cans today for sure. And maybe a little later when I am home alone this afternoon, I'll give my very lucky neighbors a taste of some Billy Thorpe cosmic rock from the back porch.

I share your fondness for 17 of the 18 songs listed (Sorry, Barry!) and eagerly await the rest of your list.
