Two Hit Wonders 1976-85 [1 of 16]

More rare than the one hit wonder is the elusive two hit wonder (common sense tells me that's true, I haven't really done any research into that claim so I'm just guessing). [ed. note 10/26/18 - we've done further research and the previous statement appears to be accurate.] I've never heard a retro radio station do a "two-hit wonder flashback weekend" or a "two-hit Tuesday" but that's their loss. Many of these artists are occasionally mistaken for a one hit wonder or have hit other charts in Billboard, but each hit the Top 40 only twice. In no particular order, here's four of the 64 that I found:

STEVIE WOODS
Born in Columbus, Ohio. Male R&B singer/songwriter. Son of jazz great Rusty Bryant.

Title Top 40 Debut Chart Peak
Steal the Night 11/14/81 25
Just Can't Win 'Em All 3/20/82 38

SALSOUL ORCHESTRA
Disco orchestra conducted by producer/arranger Vincent Montana.
Vocalists included Phyllis Rhodes, Ronni Tyson, Carl Helm, Philip Hurt and Jocelyn Brown.

Title Top 40 Debut Chart Peak
Tangerine 2/14/76 18
Nice 'N' Naasty 10/30/76 30

TEENA MARIE
Born Mary Christine Brockert on 3/5/56 in Santa Monica; raised in Venice, California.
White funk singer/songwriter.

Title Top 40 Debut Chart Peak
I Need Your Lovin' 1/17/81 37
Lovergirl 2/2/85 4

BLUE ÖYSTER CULT
Hard-rock group from Long Island, New York: Eric Bloom (vocals), Donald "Buck Dharma" Roeser (guitar),
Allen Lanier (keyboards), and brothers Joe (bass) and Albert (drums) Bouchard.

Title Top 40 Debut Chart Peak
(Don't Fear) The Reaper 9/4/76 12
Burnin' for You 10/3/81 40

*to qualify as a MFD two hit wonder, the artist or group can have placed only two singles in the Billboard Top 40 and those two singles must have entered the Top 40 during the years 1976-85. Data and artist descriptions taken from The Billboard Book of Top 40 Hits, 7th edition (2000).
