Counting down my Top 78 of '78: Bubbling Under Singles

I hope you enjoyed my Top 78 of '78 series.  As I mentioned in each post, I started with the 451 singles that peaked on Billboard Magazine's Hot 100 chart in 1978.  An initial pass through that list narrowed it down to 117 before deciding on the final 78.  But what of those other 39 singles that made the first cut but weren't selected for the final list?  Here they are, in alphabetical order:
  1. "Alive Again" by Chicago
  2. "An Everlasting Love" by Andy Gibb
  3. "Beast of Burden" by The Rolling Stones
  4. "Boogie Shoes" by K.C. & The Sunshine Band
  5. "Come Sail Away" by Styx
  6. "Don't Let Me Be Misunderstood" by Santa Esmeralda
  7. "Don't Look Back" by Boston
  8. "Ebony Eyes" by Bob Welch
  9. "Even Now" by Barry Manilow
  10. "Every Kinda People" by Robert Palmer
  11. "Flash Light" by Parliament
  12. "Get Off" by Foxy
  13. "Heartless" by Heart
  14. "Here You Come Again" by Dolly Parton
  15. "I Love the Nightlife (Disco 'Round)" by Alicia Bridges
  16. "I Love You" by Donna Summer
  17. "I'm Not Gonna Let It Bother Me Tonight" by Atlanta Rhythm Section
  18. "Kiss You All Over" by Exile
  19. "Macho Man" by Village People
  20. "Miss You" by The Rolling Stones
  21. "On Broadway" by George Benson
  22. "Our Love" by Natalie Cole
  23. "Poor Poor Pitiful Me" by Linda Ronstadt
  24. "Psycho Killer" by Talking Heads
  25. "Sentimental Lady" by Bob Welch
  26. "Shame" by Evelyn "Champagne" King
  27. "Short People" by Randy Newman
  28. "Slip Slidin' Away" by Paul Simon
  29. "Summer Nights" by John Travolta & Olivia Newton-John
  30. "Thank God It's Friday" by Love & Kisses
  31. "Thank You For Being a Friend" by Andrew Gold
  32. "Too Hot Ta Trot" by Commodores
  33. "Too Much, Too Little, Too Late" by Johnny Mathis & Deniece Williams
  34. "Werewolves of London" by Warren Zevon
  35. "Who Are You" by The Who
  36. "You Don't Bring Me Flowers" by Barbra Streisand & Neil Diamond
  37. "You Needed Me" by Anne Murray
  38. "You Never Done It Like That" by Captain & Tennille
  39. "You're the One That I Want" by John Travolta & Olivia Newton-John
Any of those singles could have easily made the 78 of '78 on another day. 1978 had lots of good tunes - what a wonderful problem to have!
