This year, this blog will periodically focus its attention on the singles and albums of 1976.  So let's get things rolling with some bracketology. I've created this bracket of the top eight pop singles from 1976 and we'll match them against each other, round by round, until a winner emerges. I hope you'll play along as I'm sure your bracket will turn out differently from mine. Singles and seedings taken directly from the December 25, 1976 issue of Billboard magazine:

• Quarterfinal #3: "Disco Lady" by Johnnie Taylor (#1 for 4 weeks) vs. "Kiss and Say Goodbye" by The Manhattans (#1 for 2 weeks)
• Quarterfinal #4: "Don't Go Breaking My Heart" by Elton John & Kiki Dee (#1 for 4 weeks) vs. "Love Machine" by The Miracles (#1 for 1 week)
