
For the first 6 months of 1978, Billboard published a top 40 Jazz Albums list in the 2nd and 4th issues of each month. Beginning with the July 1 issue, the list expanded to 50 chart positions and appeared weekly. A total of 197 albums charted that year; 10 hit the top spot.
