1983 - The Golden Age of Soundtracks?

In a word, no.  Of the 17 songs to reach the top spot on the Billboard Hot 100 chart in 1983, only 2 songs came directly from a movie soundtrack.

Despite my appreciation for Giorgio Moroder's music, I never cared much for the song Flashdance.  I always liked Maniac, though.

Other soundtrack hits from 1983 that didn't make the top spot include:
  • "Far from Over" by Frank Stallone from Staying Alive  (peaked at #10)
  • "It Might Be You" by Stephen Bishop from Tootsie (#25)
  • "The Way He Makes Me Feel" by Barbra Streisand from Yentl (#40)
The winner of the Oscar for Best Original Song at the 56th Academy Awards was "Flashdance...What a Feeling."
